“Our WisperTel service was installed today and we successfully connected - this is fantastic. Can't believe we actually have high-speed Internet on Lookout Mountain. It's about time!”

When comparing wireless internet providers it is easy to become confused, but it is important to understand what makes a good provider and a good network. There are two ways to start up a wireless internet company - design and build it as a commercial quality operation, or do it as a "garage operator." WisperTel began business in October 2001 with a thoroughly researched business plan backed by years of similar experience by our Principles, and after close scrutiny by the investment community. To date WisperTel's investor funded network build out has involved millions of dollars, and our company and business plan have been written up in many leading local newspapers including the Denver Business Journal, The Rocky Mountain News, and the Denver Post.

  • Ask the other carrier how long they have been in business.
  • Ask the other carrier about their business plan and funding.

It is possible to lease a data line (T1 or 1.544 Mb/s speed) from the telephone company, have it connected at a residence just about anywhere, and then connect that data line to wireless equipment and an antenna - Presto! You are a wireless internet provider. But WisperTel's network begins at a secure commercial facility in downtown Denver where we connect directly to high speed fiber optic internet backbone trunks with over 60 times the capacity of a T1. We then transport this bandwidth over our own high capacity microwave network to redundant mountaintop sites where we form a self-healing redundant ring architecture. All of our principle sites are hardened commercial communication facilities with battery and automatic generator backup power. We do not use any facilities from the phone company, the "cable guy," or the satellite providers.

  • Ask the other carrier how much bandwidth is available at their “head end.”
  • Ask the other carrier what happens to their network when the lights go out.
  • Ask the other carrier if they are relying on the phone company or another carrier to supply the bandwidth you would be using.

A critical consideration also is the depth and breadth of experience that a provider draws on. Since the main business seems to be internet connections it would seem logical that people with a lot of internet and computer experience would be well suited to start and operate a wireless internet firm. Wrong! The key word is "wireless." This business and technology is as much about wireless radio engineering as it is about the internet. When an interference or other signal problem occurs, it is critical to have the tools, knowledge, and experience to quickly troubleshoot and remedy the problem. WisperTel draws on years of experience wireless design, construction, and troubleshooting in the commercial cellular, PCS, and mobile radio fields.

  • Read our biographies here.
  • Ask the other carrier about their experience in wireless network design.
  • Ask the other carrier if they have specialized wireless test equipment such as spectrum analyzers.

When you look below the surface, compare the true costs of the actual service, look at the company itself and the network they will use, we believe you will find that WisperTel is the only carrier class alternative for your broadband internet access. We invite your questions.
