Can I hook up more than one computer to my WisperTEL connection
Yes. WisperTel's service will support multiple computers. Additional equipment will probably be required such as an inexpensive DSL Router and a hub or switch. Learn how to setup a local area network (LAN).

My service is not working, what do I do
First, reboot your computer then your router and try again. Also, check to make sure that the WisperTel power connection (little white box) has two green LEDs lit on it. If this still doesn't fix the problem, please contact support.

Why doesn't my VPN work
It's likely that you do not have a Static IP Address which is necessary to use VPN or Virtual Private Networking services. Please contact support for assistance.

My connection is slow, how can I test it
WisperTel provides tools on our website under Support, General Settings, Speed Issues for testing speed and tweaking your settings for optimal speed and throughput.

How fast will my connection be
The equipment we use is manufactured to a standard that permits local data speeds of up to 9 Mbps. We have many service options to choose from, with speeds ranging from 768 Kbps to 9 Mbps. Actual speeds vary based on network and/or customer equipment.

Is it secure
The technologies we have chosen to use in our network have built in proprietary protocols and are highly secure. WisperTel's network management system only allows communications between radios from WisperTel's vendors which have been authenticated and approved. In addition, software encryption is employed on all data transfers. Off the shelf equipment is not capable of receiving our signals and therefore cannot be casually broken. Our signals are not 802.11 in any way.

Is the signal affected by the weather
Theoretically no. However, a slight degradation in transmission rates may occur during periods of heavy snowfall, rain and very high winds that could pose the possibility of de-aligning antennas. Also, antennas buried in deep snow is a problem. Our engineers design with normal weather conditions in mind and alleviate any problems.

I want to use a different ISP is that possible
No. Wisper is your only option for ISP, providing you with your high-speed connection to the Internet, e-mail, Webmail, web hosting and a variety of additional Web services that you may need such as static IP addresses, domain hosting, etc.

Your service is Mac-compatible, isn't it
Completely! We probably have 20% of our customers that are on a Mac. They are also as easy as windows or Unix to install.

What sort of firewall protection do you provide
If you get a static IP address from us, we provide you no firewall. You're on your own. If you don't purchase a static IP you will get a NAT (Network Address Translation) address inside of the WisperTel network, you are secure from computers off the WisperTEL network, but it's still a great idea to have either a software firewall or a Cable/DSL router and virus protection to protect yourself.

Do you provide any sort of SPAM filtering
Yes. WisperTel uses several real time filters that stop more than 95% of the spam that gets into our system. This doesn't block every spam, but it really cuts down on it.

Do you provide any sort of virus protection for e-mail
Yes. WisperTel now provides virus protection on all incoming and outgoing WisperTel emails to protect you from content containing viruses. This service is provided free-of-charge to our email customers. You must use a wispertel.net email address to take advantage of this feature.

How do I get my email when I am traveling
If you are visiting somewhere that has internet access, all you need is a browser. Visit http://webmail.wispertel.net to use the WisperTel Webmail Interface. It will provide you with all of the email coming into your account as long as your home computer is not checking email at the same time.

Can I send and receive emails from my laptop when I'm traveling or on dial-up?
Yes. You will need to configure your email program to use SMTP authentication or check the box that says "My Email Server Requires Authentication." The system uses your full email address as the user name and your email password for authentication.

Can I use my mac to send and receive email?
Yes. Any POP3 capable email program will work on this system regardless of which operating system the computer runs on. For configuration information, visit Support, Configuration Info, from the main WisperTel Website.

Is there a way for me to download the messages that the system marks as SPAM?
No, there is currently no way for us to do this.

Is there any way for me to view emails marked as a virus on the system?
No. Messages marked as virus are automatically deleted from the system due to the possibility of infection.
