Broadband Wireless Business Magazine - WisperTel Offers Wi-Fi Service in Denver Area
By: Kurt Mackie
Wisper Telecommunications (WisperTel) has begun offering Internet access services via its 802.11b-based (Wi-Fi) broadband wireless network in Denver's South Jefferson County area.
The wireless Internet service provider (WISP) supports commercial and residential users at speeds ranging from 256 kbps to 8 Mbps.
WisperTel's service enables corporate LAN connectivity, as well as virtual private networks, for small office/home office users.
The WISP uses mesh technology and non-line-of-sight connections to provide service over the area's rugged terrain, according to Barry Pier, WisperTel's president and CEO. The company's antennas cover over 1,000 square miles and it has a backbone that can support 4,000 users, Pier added.
