WisperTel Acquires Quicksilver Connect and starts offering VoIP service
Earlier this week Wisper Telecommunications Inc. (d/b/a WisperTel) and Quicksilver Connect Inc., both Wireless Internet Service Providers, executed a definitive agreement for WisperTel to acquire Quicksilver’s network assets and subscriber base for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition directly benefits Quicksilver’s subscribers, increases WisperTel’s subscriber base and enhances WisperTel’s service area.
Quicksilver President Scott Schreiber remarked that their subscribers can now obtain symmetrical broadband Internet service up to 8 Mbps (320 times dial-up speed) and value-added services such as WisperTEL-E-phones. WisperTel has just launched their Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone service that includes Voice-Mail, Caller ID, Call-Waiting, Call-Forwarding, 3-Way Calling and 3¢ per minute Domestic Long Distance, all for $19.95 per month.
WisperTel President/CEO Barry Pier said that with the Quicksilver acquisition, the Company is rapidly approaching 2,000 subscribers. Pier noted that WisperTel turned cash flow positive in April and that the additional subscribers and enhanced service area will further WisperTel’s profitability.
Pier remarked that WisperTel is building its own carrier-class network targeting communities not being served by other broadband access providers along Colorado’s Front Range. Schreiber noted that Quicksilver had also targeted the Southwest Denver metropolitan area. WisperTel covers from Wadsworth Blvd. west to Georgetown and past Bailey to Shawnee, north to Golden and Arvada, and south to Ken Caryl, Morrison, Conifer and Pine. Pier believes that with the subscribers and coverage acquired from Quicksilver, WisperTel is now the largest wireless broadband Internet service provider in the Denver metropolitan area.
